Course Information

Discipline Sheet: Fisa-EN_Tiplea(SI) / Fisa-RO_Tiplea(SI).

Course Goal: The course is intended for undergraduate students. Its purpose is to present some basic techniques and principles in Information Security, such as cryptographic techniques, access control techniques, and security protocols and architectures. Information Security is a vast field, and the thematic palette chosen for this course is the instructor’s option. For those interested in deepening their knowledge, our department offers a master’s program in information security, the director of which is the instructor of this course. There is also the possibility of pursuing doctoral studies in cryptography and information security (please see the Students section on this site).

Prerequisites: The course does not require special prior knowledge. However, those who have already taken a cryptography course, such as “Introduction to Cryptography” on this site, can move more quickly through the topics covered in the course.

Readings: This course does not have a textbook, although there are many great textbooks on information security. Each lecture we present comes with a list of references easily accessible to all and reading recommendations. This will help open the student’s knowledge horizons.

Grading:

• The final grade is the average of the grades obtained in the ongoing evaluation at seminaries (laboratories) and the final exam;
• The ongoing evaluation is based on exercise solving and implementations (50%), one multiple-choice test (20%), and one project (30%). The course assistants will communicate to you at the first seminar the basic principles and the grading method for the ongoing evaluation;
• The final exam takes place in the examination session;
• The course is passed if both the final grade and the grade on the final exam are at least 5;
• Please pay attention to the fact that the re-examination refers only to the final exam!
